Regardless of the fact that everything we do belongs to universities and educational centers, which train us to be what we are, as humans we recognize ourselves as possessors of a very special form of learning, as highlighted by Howard Earl Gardner, who suggests that there is not just one form of intelligence, but several, each with its own value and application, this enables us to do the right thing and also, it is good to say as a note of mine, for everything that is illegal and penalized by the laws of the world.
This theory revolutionized the way we understand human capabilities and recognized that people can excel in different areas, which in turn can open up diverse opportunities in education and personal development. Therefore, we can see people with great abilities who stand out in different social spheres, but also geniuses who have managed to hack computer systems and create very ingenious structures to move and traffic humans or drugs.
Gardner initially identified eight types of intelligence:
Linguistic, logical-mathematical, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, spatial, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. Each of these types of intelligence uniquely contributes to the way an individual interacts with the world and solves problems, which challenges the traditional monolithic approach of measuring intelligence through standardized tests. According to the psychologist, researcher, and professor at Harvard University, this understanding allows educators and parents to cultivate each student’s strengths, adapting methods and approaches that favour learning and the expression of their innate abilities.
Let’s look at a breakdown of each of them, mentioning the one who was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for Social Sciences in 2011.
Linguistic intelligence: Ability to use language effectively, orally and in writing. Examples: writers, poets, and orators.
Logical-mathematical intelligence: Capacity for logical reasoning and mathematical problem-solving. Examples: scientists, and mathematicians.
Spatial intelligence: Ability to think in three dimensions. Examples: architects, and visual artists.
Musical intelligence: Ability to understand and create music. Examples: musicians, and composers.
Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence: Ability to use the body effectively. Examples: athletes, dancers.
Intrapersonal intelligence: Ability to understand oneself. Examples: philosophers, and psychologists.
Interpersonal intelligence: Ability to understand and relate to other people. Examples: teachers, and leaders.
Naturalistic intelligence: Ability to recognize and classify natural species. Examples: biologists, and ecologists.
In the broad sphere of humanity’s activities, all of these qualities are useful in the field in which you work. Of course, you may be the leader of a drug cartel and you got there because of your ability to use language effectively, recognize and classify the groups you deal with, and understand who is manipulable and who is not.
Your logical reasoning has allowed you to know who you can deceive, the simplest way to become and train pickpockets, weave a very skilful drug trafficking network and your spatial ability has allowed you to expand your knowledge of the terrain where the other sides have placed henchmen.
On the other hand, you can use your skills with admirable skill to put in the minds of humans a novel and artistic vision of a world where inclusion is a good that benefits everyone; you could also be a skilled architect who discovers how to integrate the constructions of civilization into the environments that occupy them and integrate with them to take advantage of their benefits; be intuitive and develop persuasive skills to motivate investors to create environmentally friendly devices.
For example, there is talk of installing a support system in schools so that students eat properly and thus combat childhood obesity, but on Sundays at the cinema with friends, the most eloquent and best promoted offers are buckets of carbohydrates and fried foods, jellies and sugars to share the fun.
The world in its awakening sees a reality that fades away when we look around.
